Responsibilities of the Tax Collector

The Fairfield County Tax Collector's Office is responsible for collecting past-due property taxes and managing the county's tax sale process. The office works to ensure the timely collection of delinquent taxes, which are a vital source of revenue for the county's services and programs.

This Department DOES:

• Sends out notices for past-due taxes on real property, personal property and merchants inventory
• Collects and process delinquent tax payments and redemptions
• Seizes property for non-payment of taxes, in accordance with SC Code of Laws/Title 12
• Plans, conducts and manages tax sales

This Department DOES NOT:

• Accept payments for non delinquent tax bills (See Treasurer)
• Revise tax bills (See Auditor)
• Determine values on real property (See Assessor)
• Determine values on personal property (See Auditor)
• Provide information on taxes due in other counties
