New Detention Center Director

Fairfield County Government has named Fairfield County Detention Center (FCDC) Captain, Harriet Squirewell, as the new director of the FCDC. As the Detention Center Director, Ms. Squirewell will be responsible for the overall management of the Fairfield County Detention Center staff and services.

Captain Squirewell has worked with the Fairfield County Detention Center for over 17 years and has over 19 years of experience in the Corrections field. She has been a Captain at the Detention Center for 4.5 years and assumed operational command of the Detention Center in an acting director capacity on July 17th. Captain Squirewell has held the ranks of Corporal, Sergeant, and Lieutenant, obtained Class 2 Officer certification and has successfully completed the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy’s Jail Management Training course.

Fairfield County is looking forward to Ms. Squirewell’s continued leadership and support for our hardworking Detention Center staff,” says Malik Whitaker, Fairfield County Administrator.

“It is an honor to have been selected to serve as Director of the Fairfield County Detention Center,” says Ms. Squirewell. “I will continue to work with our staff to move the Detention forward and will look to recruit new staff to join my team. Through hard work, training, and dedication, myself along with the other staff at the Detention Center will strive to move the Detention Center forward in a positive direction.”

The FCDC operates on a Budget of $2,300,419 and is responsible for:

  • Detainee Processing
  • Detainee Commissary
  • Detainee Labor Force
  • Detainee Transportation
  • Facility Security
  • Custody of pretrial and sentenced detainees
  • Detainee Medical Care
  • Food Services
  • Maintenance of Incarceration Records
