Congestion Management Plan Survey

Fairfield County and Central Midlands Council of Governments need your help. On Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, the CMCOG held a Public Workshop to discuss traffic congestion issues in Fairfield County. For those unable to attend, please fill out the survey located here:
The goal is to identify areas of congestion and areas of potential future congestion, so that County leadership can prepare for development growth in the county.

Examples that were mentioned at the meeting last night are as follows:
-Downtown Ridgeway: This isn't a big congestion area but because of the narrow two lanes running through downtown, the number of walking patrons on any given day and it being the main truck route from I-77 to I-20, there are safety concerns.

-The area between Fairfield Central High School and Element TV: There are traffic congestion and visibility issues that have arisen during the morning hours when employees are arriving to work, trucks lined up to enter the plant and students arriving to school. Also in the afternoons, when the shift is over, it gets congested in this area, with a few wrecks happening in the past year.

-There are manufacturing facilities on Cook Road, near the Walter B. Brown Industrial Park, that do not have truck waiting/turning lanes to enter the facilities. This can cause trucks to sit idly in the road until they are able to enter the facility.

These studies are done to identify potential congestion or caution areas. Please take a few minutes to help further this study, so Fairfield County leadership has more comprehensive information that aid in the planning and development taking place across the county.
