Veterans Affairs Hosts 5th Annual Veteran Expo
On Friday, March 27th, 2026, Fairfield County Veterans Affairs hosted the 5th Annual Veterans Expo at the Boykin Recreation Center. Albertha Woodard, Director of Fairfield County Veterans Affairs, talked about the initial goal of hosting a yearly Veteran Expo. “Initially the thought was to put on an event to highlight some of the resources available around the county and state, which go beyond their benefits and compensation. There are resources that provide housing, food, home care and basically any resource that is available to Veterans. Survivors of Veterans are also eligible to receive these benefits and may not be previously aware of all the services available to them.”
The event draws approximately 200 Veterans and 30 exhibitors each year and has become a great way for Veterans to network with other Veterans and find a place to connect with vital services, as well as finding a welcoming place to share experiences with other Veterans. “The response from the Veterans has been overwhelming. Not only can they find out more information about the benefits and resources available to them but they find appreciation. A few years ago, we started the Veterans Expo and a Veterans Day Luncheon, where we honor the service and sacrifice of our military servicemen and servicewomen. Sometimes the Veteran community feels left out; when doing events like these, it’s more than finding out information, it’s about the fellowship. Sharing stories and experiences with others that have served is a great way to honor these amazing people. We are excited anytime we get a chance to recognize our Fairfield County Veterans.”
Food for the Veteran’s Expo was sponsored by Senator Everett Stubbs and the Gaston, Marion, Stubbs, Hunter & Swancy Law Firm. Thank you to Darryel Davis and Joe Siebles, with Two Men and a Grill, for cooking the food for the event.
To the Veterans of Fairfield County, thank you for your courage, sacrifice and unwavering dedication to our country. Your service has protected our freedoms and strengthened our community. We are deeply grateful for all that you have done and continue to do.
