FJWSS Commission Recognized at the 2025 SCAC Annual Awards Luncheon
At the 2025 SCAC Awards Luncheon, the Fairfield Joint Water and Sewer System Commission was recognized as a finalist for the Barrett Lawrimore Memorial Regional Cooperation Award.
The Barrett Lawrimore Memorial Regional Cooperation Award highlights the growing need for regional partnerships, strategies, and solutions. Competition for this award is open to two or more political subdivisions (counties or county partnerships formed with city, town, district, or regional government organizations) that worked together on a project.
The Fairfield Joint Water and Sewer System Commission was formed to address the water and wastewater needs of the County for industry and housing expansion. The Commission is a cooperative effort between the Town of Ridgeway, the Town of Winnsboro and Fairfield County. The first major project from the Commission is the Winnsboro Connector Line Project that connects the Fairfield Commerce Park to the wastewater treatment facility in Winnsboro. Once completed in June 2026, this line will provide an additional 500,000 gallons of wastewater treatment capacity daily to that part of the County, with additional areas to be expanded to in the future.
Congratulations to the winners: Greenville and Pickens Counties. Their cooperative effort, along with over 100 fire control agencies, worked together to put out the largest wildfire in recent Upstate South Carolina History in the area around Table Rock State Park.
The FJWSS is also focusing on a new wastewater treatment facility that will service Fairfield County for decades to come. This project is expected to be online by 2029.
Congratulations to Ridgeway, Winnsboro and Fairfield County on this cooperative accomplishment!
