Fairfield County is hiring a Deputy County Administrator. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions as necessary.

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned departments, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.

Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work plans; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.

Assists the County Administrator and performs a variety of complex and specialized administrative duties, which may include but are not limited to researching and compiling data for special projects and reports, assisting in drafting policies and other official statements and documents, scheduling meetings, assisting in budget preparation, and representing the Administrator at County and community meetings.

Works independently and with County staff on special and nonrecurring and ongoing projects. Acts as project manager for special projects.

Conducts research at the County Administrator's request on current and upcoming issues.

Prepares reports as necessary. Monitors fund activity, notifying the Administrator of situations that require attention.

Prepares agendas, training and/or activities for Leadership Meetings, study reports, recommendations, budget documents, resolutions, ordinances, analytical reports, spread sheets, and various other reports, memos and correspondence. 

Conducts research at the Administrator's request on current and upcoming issues.

Interacts and communicates with the County Administrator, County Council members, department heads, elected and appointed officials. County and/or contract attorneys, law enforcement agencies, solicitors, Judges, employees, co-workers, subordinates, sales representatives, government agencies, business leaders, Association of Counties, various outside agencies and professionals, and the general public. Serves as official representative of the County on various boards.

Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 

At least (7) years of progressively responsible local government experience or management, or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Proficient in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 

Polished public speaking ability; comfortable presenting to groups of varying size. 

Ability to work outside of normal business hours, out of town and/or overnight 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
