County Council Recognizes Cathy Washington
At the December 8th, 2025 Fairfield County Council meeting, Fairfield County Council recognized Cathy Washington for her retirement and years of service to the Fairfield County community, with a proclamation.
RECOGNIZING THE RETIREMENT OF MRS. CATHY WASHINGTON
FAIRFIELD COUNTY PROCUREMENT DIRECTOR
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cathy Washington began her career in Fairfield County in December 2003 as an Administrative Assistant in the Finance Department; and
WHEREAS, from 2005-2010, she served in Accounts Payable and from 2010-2015, she was the Fiscal Analyst; and
WHEREAS, she was promoted to Deputy Procurement Director in 2015 and again in 2020 as the Procurement Manager. In 2022, she took her rightful place as Director of Procurement until her retirement in September 2025; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington has been a member of several organizations – Government Finance Officers Association, SC Association of Government Purchasing Officials, the National Institute of Government Purchasing and is also a member of the NIGP Audit Task Force;
WHEREAS, she served on the County’s Employee Grievance Board for four years, completed the Fairfield County revised procurement manual with Attorney’s Boykin & Davis, and was awarded by the SC Emergency Management Division for the successful completion of the PA Reimbursement in July 2023; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington’s long-awaited retirement will consist of well-deserved rest, relaxation and travel; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that Chairman Clarence Gilbert, District 7, and the members of the Fairfield County Council, would like to recognize and congratulate MRS. CATHY WASHINGTON on her retirement. We are grateful for your time, commitment & attention to detail to the Fairfield County Procurement Department and wish you the best in your retirement.
