Recreation Specialist - Part Time

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Directs, coordinates, plans and supervises County-sponsored recreational programs and events for youths and adults, arranges, schedules and secures necessary instructional and supervisory person­nel to carry out such programs.

Plans, prepares and executes County-sponsored health and fitness programs and events associated with programs; arranges, schedules and secures necessary instructional and supervisory personnel to carry out such programs. 

Directs, coordinates and supervises County-sponsored athletic programs and events for youth and adults.  Arranges schedules and secures necessary instructional and supervisory personnel to carry out such programs. 

Recruits, trains and supervises Temp As-needed staff, volunteers, and instructors.

Promotes programs and events, and solicits donations or sponsorships, through contact with various media and personal appearances before civic and business groups; prepares press releases, flyers, posters, etc. for promotional activities.

Works with community groups and individuals in determining recreational needs and interests of the youth and adult community and establishing programs to meet such needs.

Prepares special reports.

Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for operation of recreational programs; orders equipment, supplies and awards for programs, and instructional/educational classes.

Plans, develops, and supervises special event programs for all ages.
 

Supervises program registration.

Markets and promotes all programs.

Prepares reports to show activity.

Evaluates effectiveness of all programs and recommend changes as appropriate.

Supervises staff responsible for the implementation of programs.

Develops programs by determining the needs of the community, outlining class structure, choosing sites, determining number of participants, and recruiting instructors.

Receives and/or reviews registrations for programs to meet program goals, applications, participant feedback to improve program quality, and questions on programs.

Prepares and/or generates budget recommendations, media releases, and monthly reports to summarize program activities and special events, and invoices for payments.

Refers to Internet, participant feedback and evaluations, budget, registration forms, and policies and procedures manuals.

Operates 15 passenger vans and office equipment such as copier, fax machine, computer, etc.

Utilizes office supplies, computer software, etc.

Interacts and communicates with general public, vendors, co-workers, supervisor, etc.
Must be able to work weekends and nights.

Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE 


Associate's degree in recreation, physical education or a related field, and 1 to 2 years of experience in recreation work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
