Health and Fitness Specialist

Salary: $15.42 - $21.59/hour

Description: Under general supervision, performs recreational work in planning, preparing and executing a variety of indoor and outdoor health and fitness events for all ages for the County Parks and Recreation Department including special events/programs. Work involves resolving problems disputes among participants, prepares schedules, overseas preparation and maintenance of facilities; makes work assignments and schedules; recruits, manages fitness instructors/volunteers; ensures compliance with established policies and procedures; establishes procedures with respect to scheduling, registration of participants, safety; inventory and ensure proper maintenance and storage; inspects activities and evaluates programs; keeps records and makes reports of activities usage/interest/etc.; evaluates equipment and makes recommendations for needed purchases; and makes recommendations for part-time help in Fitness programs. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in properly coordinating health and fitness programs. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with program participants, employees and volunteers. Reports to the Director of Parks and Recreation.

Requirements: Associate’s degree in recreation, physical education or a related field, and two to three years of experience in health and wellness field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Possession of a “Group Fitness Instructor” certification is preferred. Must obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within first year of employment.
