Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversees and directs subordinates in security operations related to inmates in the County Detention Center. Performs such supervisory duties as instructing; assigning, reviewing, and planning work of others; maintaining standards; and recommending disciplinary actions. Ensures the safety of all people with whom the inmates come in contact. Ensures that the staff operates in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and standards. Monitors Detention Center and grounds to ensure that proper security is maintained.
Responsible for maintaining and implementing effective training program for all personnel, coordinates training with the Criminal Justice Academy for new officers to attend basic and supervisor courses, schedule personnel to for training, to meet required Clee hours making appointments with various agencies as appropriate, maintaining training records, and ensures compliance with state standards.
Perform duties as Environmental Health and Safety Officer which consist of making sure the detention center is compliance with DHEC and fire safety codes. Conduct fire drills as required, conduct monthly inspections of all fire extinguishers and point of contact for Workman’s Compensation claims by staff and inmates.
Be responsible for establishing and maintaining entire key inventory of the facility. Ensure that proper maintenance of locks are functional and operational.
Schedules employees registration dates with South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
Ensures the proper processing of inmates including booking, assigning to cells, orientating, drug testing, processing inmate property, and appropriate inmate classifications.
Is responsible for scheduling and coordinating transportation of inmates to various locations.
Performs duties relative to the release of inmates.
Monitors and supervise Shift Commanders and all activities within the facility. Handles emergency situations which arise.
Ensures that all supplies, uniforms, etc. are available and issued to inmates appropriately.
Prepares and submits numerous documents, lists, and reports including incident reports, shift reports, supply form, transportation log, disciplinary tickets, inspection forms, personnel records, warrants, releases, visitation cards, booking cards, detail sheets, property logs, etc.
Operates and utilizes various types of equipment to complete daily responsibilities including vehicle, communication equipment, computer, adding machine, copier, restraining equipment, fingerprint board, firearms, etc.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred or high school diploma and vocational/technical school training in law enforcement and security with other training, basic jail certification, jail management, CPR certification, and standard first aid certification; and at least four years of on-the-job experience as a Detention Officer; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license.
