GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, performs a variety of diverse and routine clerical duties in order to ensure effective and efficient operations within the office of the Fairfield County Coroner. Provides support of all Coroner’s office functions such as maintaining detailed records, scheduling services from providers, and ensuring official documents are processed in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Interacts with general public, medical personnel and government officials. Reports to the Coroner.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists the County Coroner by performing a variety of specialized clerical duties, which include but are not limited to coordinating activities, composing reports and correspondence, researching and compiling data, maintaining inventory of office supplies and equipment, developing and maintaining computer record-keeping operations, establishing and maintaining files, etc.

Serves as Deputy Coroner; conducts death investigations and completes case documentation as required.

Anticipates and prepares materials needed by the County Coroner for meetings, correspondence, etc.

Answers all incoming calls and assists callers, provides accurate information to callers.

Maintains records and filing system for all the office of the County Coroner.

Prepares correspondence for on behalf of the County Coroner’s office; sorts and prepares outgoing mail.

Types, copies, files and malls various letters of correspondence, reports and official documents.

Coordinates calendar for the department to include deputy coroner schedules, training classes, appointments etc.

Assists Coroner with budgets, community outreach and education, meeting preparation, etc.

Receives and reviews reports and documents, maintains and builds case files as needed.

Refers to policy and procedure manuals, laws, diagrams, guidelines, etc.

Operates a variety of office equipment including a computer, printer, copier, fax machine, telephone, etc.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the County Coroner, deputy Coroners, County department heads and employees, County Finance Department personnel, law enforcement personnel, emergency response agencies, various state agencies, and the general public.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Performs other related duties required.


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma supplemented by at least three years of experience in a related field with clerical experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
